Go home and love your family.

“If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.”
Mother Teresa

This quote has always been one of my favorites, because there is a deep truth to it. I’ve spoken before about how you should try to change the world on a smaller scale rather than a larger one and talked about how the small acts of kindness and selflessness are more earth shattering than people know. It’s all true and I stand behind it. Small acts of love change peoples lives. You don’t know what simply changing one life does. It starts a ripple effect that moves on through the world.

But family has become a bit of a touchy subject for some. People don’t always come from the best situations. I know that I’m one of the lucky ones in this regard, I come from a set of loving parents, the importance of family never had to be told to me because I actively saw it day after day. I still actively see it. I know not everyone is like this, so I’d like to suggest two different things: one is that you love your found family with the passion and unbreakable love that should be exchanged with family. You still create that bond that promises ‘no matter what’ and you love them in a way that makes them better, as a result it will make you better too. And giving people a relationship they can fall back on will give both of you a comfort and support system you’ve been lacking.

The other thing I’ll suggest is for those who have created their own family. There is another quote that says if you don’t come from a good family, make sure a good family comes from you. Going home and loving your family when doing so is breaking generational curses is perhaps one of the best ways to change the world because for most people these habits never break. Abused children often become abusive parents. They are called cycles for a reason. Stopping one of these cycles is difficult but the rewards will be reaped for generations and generations to come. Because if abuse spawns abuse, love spawns love.

So yes, I believe the best way to change the world is to go home and love your family, not the shallow kind of love that can be washed away by a few fights, I mean the till death do us part love, the through thick or thin love, the “ride or die” love. Love your family, change the world.
