OOTD: Tackling what a lifestyle blog means to me

This is my first Outfit of the Day post in a little over a year, and that one was posted with the same disclaimer to why it had been so long. I stopped posting them because I got frustrated that those posts were doing better than my posts on serious topics like mental illness. I’m not a fashion blogger nor did I have desire to be, I added the OOTD because I thought how we present ourselves is a great part of lifestyle and this blog is supposed to be a lifestyle blog. That’s changed a little, and I didn’t really mean for it to. It started when I published “I’m Not Offended by my Bipolar Jokes. You Shouldn’t be Either.” I was really unsure when I published it, I thought it was going to go over poorly, but I was wrong, it did well and I felt amazing having published it. So, more serious posts started getting mixed into my blog. Posts on my personal relationship with suicide mixed with photo diaries of my horse. It felt good, then I got more invested in the serious topics, and as you might have noticed, they started to dominate.

It’s not a bad thing. The topics I’m writing about are important, at least to me, and I feel like they need to be talked about. That’s what a blog is supposed to be, isn’t it?

But I’ve strayed a little to far from where I started. I need a little lightness in these posts too. I need to include the everyday joys, after all, life isn’t just about the serious topics, and it definitely isn’t just about mental illness and other hardships.

So here is my outfit. Here is my smile. Here is a picture of me in my everyday life.

Anna Down South is about me as a whole, that includes seriousness and it includes happiness.

OOTD: What You Wear when it’s 72 in December

(Jeans: Forever 21 // Boots: Kenneth Cole // Top: Banana Republic

Everyone around me is really bummed about this warm weather around Christmas but I’m in love. I hate the cold and always have, I dread winter, one of the many reasons I love the south. And while it was weird to get my Christmas tree in short sleeves I will say I love being able to walk around comfortably to look at the Christmas lights outside. (We have a little magnolia tree outside our house that I decorated and it looks so good I’ll have to do it next year as well.) Plus, it’s already really really rare for us to get a white Christmas, even if the weather had been colder we probably wouldn’t of had one, so nothing is lost.

And when it comes to dressing, I’ve always loved wearing tank tops with jeans and boots, but I hardly get to do it because the weather window is really small. So here we go. I should have brought more spring tops home.

OOTD: Classes and Sunshine

Shirt: Banana Republic // Jeans: Joe Jeans // Sandals: Target

I’ve been loving simple lines and looser clothes lately. This top has a little leather strip along the collar that goes down father in the back, which gives some detail to an otherwise very simple top. I don’t know though, I’ve been digging on the minimalistic looks lately. They’re easy and make me feel put together without much work. It’s great for school, or anything really.

Everyone knows how expensive Joe Jeans are, but I found these guys on a super sell where I got three pair for the price one pair would be normally. Needless to say I was stoked. Honestly they fit great and the front pockets you can fit a smart phone into. That’s unheard of in girl jeans.

The sandals were also two for the price of one, so I guess you could say that this outfit was a deal. It’s nice when it works out that way.

Outfit of the Day: Teals, Keys, & Cherry Coke

IMG_1548imSome high(er) waisted shorts along with a plain T-shirt. Actually the most expensive thing I’m wearing is the necklace, the rest is Forever 21. I really like their basics even though some of their other stuff is a little much for me. When it comes to my sense of style I’m pretty much a minimalist with a little extra color added. Simple lines are best.

I wore this to Food Lion, and in the parking lot my 12 pack of Cherry Coke Zero busted open and they rolled everywhere, under cars, down the hill- so I go to pick them up- when I do so my purse flips and dumps it’s contents. I could have screamed. I’m sure it’s a funny story though, so I thought I’d tell it for laughs. There was a nice woman who helped me out. I hope she got some serious good karma.

62.5% Done.

Outfit Details: Target. Target for everything.

We are now on the third week back on campus. My courses this semester don’t seem too bad. Last semester was pretty relaxed, but I’m surprised sophomore year didn’t kill me. I suppose I need a nice little break before senior year comes through with it’s 300 and 400 hundred level classes. Though, break is a loose term. I’ve been super busy these past few weeks. I’ve been running around with some great friends, and though there isn’t more of them than last semester, it sure feels like it. It’s been great though. I’ve really built an incredible network around me these past two years. I’m a little scared about two of my closest friends graduating this spring, but, I guess everything will work out. I’m going to make a guide soon about surviving college and making the most of your time, because it is definitely something learned not given.
