Fall at Reynolda

In the middle of last spring I ended up going to Reynolda Gardens in Winston Salem (NC) for the first time. Given the season everything was beautiful and in bloom. You can see all those photos here.

Now that it’s fall it’s a little different. They’ve still got a few things in bloom, some letting off some serious colors like the one below, but for the most part it’s a lot subtler. Still, the green house proves to be  beautiful any time of year and I’m excited that my doctors office is right down the road. It means I get to pop in every now and then and explore. Healing Cuddles:

I went out to the farm for the first time in a while. In case you didn’t know (and if your a blog reader you wouldn’t, because I keep saying that I’m getting better!) I’ve still got chronic Lyme’s. The hardest part is that I haven’t been able to ride that often.

There is good news though, I’ve started a new pain treatment that’s really helping, so I’ve gotten to ride twice this week after three weeks of nothing. The pain treatment has been nice in a lot of ways, not because I’m anywhere close to pain free, but because it is much more manageable.

I don’t feel like Lyme’s gets talked about enough. It’s something doctors don’t like to diagnose and the main test they give you throws false negatives all the time. It’s dangerous because if you don’t catch it in time it can go to your brain and leave it’s mark on you forever. I feel like I should link to the symptoms because it’s a spreading problem that needs attention.

Until I fully recover, I’ll be healing up by cuddling with my favorite boy.

October 1st and Chive Blooms:

Chives might not be something most people photograph, but the blooms are beautiful and perhaps the only ones in my yard at the current moment. The weather here in North Carolina is finally starting to shift into fall. We had a week of rain that dropped the temp. down to a more manageable one. Luckily today and yesterday we’ve had clearer skies. All the grey starts to get to me after a while. I love a stormy night as much as anyone, but I tire after a day or two. I’ve always laughed that I’m solar powered, and it feels more true than it should!

So here is me celebrating sunny fall weather with some spring like pictures.

Well, I promise when the leaves start changing I’ll be more in tune with the rest of the internet.

Feeling Alive on Lake Fontana:

My amazing neighbor opens his house and boat to us almost every summer on the beautiful mountain lake Fontana. It’s another place that has captured my heart over the years. (Like I needed another reason to love North Carolina so dearly.)

Actually scratch that- I always need more reasons to love North Carolina. It’s my favorite place in the world, it’s the place that will always be my home… and it’s great because though I’m very settled in my little region of North Carolina- if I need something even slightly different, NC has it all. Mountains, lakes, pastures, islands, beaches, country sides, amazing cities. If there is a place for anything and everything, it is here, in my home state.

Equine Study:

If the question is what are my favorite things to photograph, I bet anyone who has even thought about looking at the blog could answer

  1. My horse

Now that I have kittens they can be included, but to be honest they don’t sit nearly as nice for the camera as D’Artagnan (Dar-tan-yon). In fact, the only time I have problems with this horse and photos is when he is respectively trying to eat the camera. But, I mean, who wouldn’t want to do that?

Sometimes I wonder if my readers get tired of horse pictures, or more importantly, one horse over and over again. Sometimes I think about taking a break from the horse photos, and sometimes I actually do. But these creatures are so stunning that I could study one for years and not get tired of it. I’m not just saying this about my boy, either, though he is the love of my life.

Horses have long been these figures of grace and power. If you own one or spend time with them, you know that’s not always the case. (Hint: My horse has literally been afraid of a butterfly before) But there is something to be said about that statement.

Magnolias: The Flower of the South

I have two favorite scents, and they’re both flowers. One of them is honeysuckles and the other is the stately magnolia. We have a magnolia tree in the front yard of my parents house, not only did I spend the earlier years of my life climbing up to the second story view, I also spent the early summer weeks with my house smelling like their blooms.

Meet the Kittens: Denim and Linen

I have some very exciting news! I’ve just adopted two kittens, Denim (first picture) and Linen (second picture). They are siblings and love to play, I couldn’t buy one without another! They both are about nine weeks old, and friendly as all get out.

We’re still working on getting them used to the dog, but they are doing really well with it. If anyone has any tricks for that I’d love to hear them! Linen loves her, but Denim is still pretty frightened by her.

They are settling in nicely, though. I’ve decided that they are going to be indoor cats unlike our past ones which have all been indoor/outdoor. I think they would do fine outside, but I’m going to take them with me when I move out of my parents house, and I don’t want them outside in an apartment complex. It just wouldn’t be very safe.
